A suicide awareness and prevention walk is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 8 at Carter Caves State Resort Park, 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
This is the second year for the event and will feature “Honor Beads.” Walkers can choose to show their personal connection to the cause and aid identifying others with shared experiences by choosing beads of various colors.
Nine colors of beads will available; white represents the loss of a child, orange symbolizes the loss of sibling, green indicates a personal struggle or attempt, red is loss of spouse/partner, purple is loss of a relative or friend, teal is supporting someone who struggles or has attempted suicide, gold is the loss of a parent, silver is the loss of a first responder/military, and blue indicates a person’s support of suicide prevention.
