Mike Richey, Vice President of University of Kentucky’s Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement departments, spoke to members of the Grayson Area Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday, Aug. 13 at Kentucky Christian University.
Richey has history is fundraising, having spent 35 years of his career in the field, and has brought that experience with him to UK.
He is part of a new program called Kentucky Can: The 21st Century Campaign is a $2.1 billion fundraising effort to ensure that more students attend the university without incurring debt.
Scholarships are among some of the ways the program will achieve its goals and Richey said its more focused on helping students with unmet needs. Those students, in particular, are at a much higher risk of dropping out of a substantial life event occurs. Richey said 21 students in Carter County qualify as having unmet needs.
The university is looking at other ways it can help strengthen the commonwealth and invited the chamber to visit the campus and learn more about the programs the university offers to help counties.
