Preview: Fair starts next week

Sunday, Aug. 11

A beauty pageant kicks off the 2019 edition of the Carter County Fair on Sunday, Aug. 11 at 2 p.m. at Prichard Elementary. Doors open at 1 p.m. Exhibit registration for horticulture, agriculture and more will be from 2:30 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the Fairgrounds Exhibit Hall.

Monday, Aug. 12

$2 admission. Livestock weigh-in start for 4-H and FFA shows at 8 a.m. with shows starting at 9 a.m. The exhibit hall is open from 5:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. for viewing with free admission. A dinner for livestock buyers will start at 6 p.m. along with registration (free admission). Livestock auction starts at 7 p.m.

Tuesday, Aug. 13

The carnival opens at 6 p.m. with $5 admission into the grounds with an additional charge by the carnival company for rides. Seniors and veterans get a discounted $2 admission. The exhibit hall will open at 5:30 p.m. for viewing and close at 8 p.m. Tri-State MX will present motocross at 7 p.m. Papa John’s Pizza is sponsoring a pizza-eating contest at 8:15 p.m.

Wednesday, Aug. 14

A petting zoo opens at 5:30 p.m. and runs until 9:30 p.m. Carnival opens at 6 p.m. Registration for a talent show will start at 6:30 p.m. with the show at 7 p.m. Go-cart races will be held in the motor arena at 7 p.m.

Thursday, Aug. 15

$10 admission gets you into the whole fair experience on Wednesday night as the petting zoo opens at 5:30 p.m. and carnival rides open at 6 p.m. “Kids in the Races” will feature local youth on battery-powered vehicles for a race in the motor arena at 6 p.m. Quad and ATV races start at 7 p.m.

Friday, Aug. 16

The carnival and petting zoo carry the same times as before with the addition of announcing the talent show winners at 7 p.m. on the main stage. James Family Outfitters will host a Best Dressed Cowboy and Cowgirl contest with winners determined by audience participation, 7 p.m. FAIR-I-O-K-E will start at 8 p.m. on the main stage. $10 admission.

Saturday, Aug. 17

The exhibit hall will be open 10 a.m. until noon to pick up ribbons and premiums – no admission charged before noon. Petting carries on at 5:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. Carnival opens at 6 p.m. Karaoke at 7 p.m. on the stage. Top Dog Promotions Demolition Derby starts at 8 p.m.
