The Carter County Board of Education has published the 2019-2020 school year calendar.
Teachers are required to report on Monday, Aug. 5, Tuesday, Aug. 6 and, Wednesday, Aug. 7 for professional development and planning.
Students will return to school on Thursday, Aug. 8.
There will be no school on Monday, Sept. 2 for Labor Day.
Fall Break will be Monday, Sept. 30 through Friday, Oct. 4.
Teacher professional development will close schools on Monday, Nov. 4 and Election Day will close schools on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
Thanksgiving Break will be observed Wednesday, Nov. 27 through Friday, Nov. 29. Wednesday is a flexible professional development day for teachers.
Christmas and News Year’s break will be Monday, Dec. 23 through Friday, Jan. 3.
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day will be observed with no school on Monday, Jan. 20.
President’s Day, Monday, Feb. 17, will be used a professional development day for teachers and school will be closed.
Spring Break will be Monday, Mar. 30 through Friday, April 3 with the option to use those for days for make-up in the event of school closures due to inclement weather.
Monday, May 18 will serve as the last day of school for students.
Teachers will have a planning day on Wednesday, May 20 and have their last day on Thursday, May 21.
Additionally, May 22, May 26 through May 29, and June 1 through 5, June 8 through 11 have been allocated for weather-related make-up days.
