Funtober Fest committee holds first meeting, seeks logo and sponsors

We are in the dead heat of summer, but the Grayson Rotary’s Funtobert Fest Committee is looking forward toward cooler weather of fall as they plan the annual Funtobert Fest.

The committee met Wednesday evening and reviewed last year’s event and decided what events would happen again this year.

Some ideas were tossed around as to what may be able to replace the annual chili cook-off, such as “Taste of Grayson,” where local restaurants would have an opportunity to enter for the “best food in town” type of contest. However, the committee decided to stick with the chili cook-off, at least for this year, due to logistical reasons.

In an effort to consolidate activities, and by requests from event sponsors, the Grayson Walking Trail Park has been eliminated as a venue for events. Funtober Fest organizers and a few event sponsors preferred to be closer to the action on Park Street, where most of the activities are based this year.

The annual art show at the Grayson Gallery and Art Center, fall store display contest, scarecrow contest, bike safety and fun ride, a family movie night, craft sale at the fire department, pumpkin decorating contest, story reading, costume parade and contest, fire department light show and family movie night are all in planning for this year’s festivities. Other events are also being organized and details will be released closer to October.

Inflatables and a “trunk-or-treat” are also being considered.

A $50 reward is being offered for the best logo design. The contest opens July 15 and closes at noon on August 14. Email designs and contact information to

Sponsorships are also being sought and are available at several tier levels: Diamond for donations $300 or higher, Platinum for donations between $ 200 and $299, Gold for $ $150 to $199, Silver for $100 to $149, Bronze for $50 to $99, and Friends of Funtober Fest for donations between $25 and $49. Sponsor names will be listed on official programs, newspapers, radio, and t-shirts. Deadline for sponsorships is August 31 at noon.
