The Kentucky State Police Post 14 in Ashland are investigating a two-vehicle injury collision that occurred on June 30, at approximately 3:30 p.m., at the junction of Caroline Road and U.S. 23 in the Raceland Community of Greenup County.
The investigation revealed that Allen Wheeler, age 27 of Ashland, had been operating a 1999 Isuzu Rodeo and was attempting to cross U.S. 23 when he failed to observe a KSP cruiser which was traveling northbound. Trooper Steven Davidson, age 34 of London, was operating the KSP cruiser.
Evidence and witness statements collected on the scene indicate Mr. Wheeler attempted to accelerate through both northbound lanes of travel without giving right-of-way to the oncoming traffic.
Mr. Wheeler’s front right bumper contacted the Trooper’s front left bumper forcing the Trooper off U.S. 23 into a ditch. Both operators sustained minor injuries and were transported to Bellafonte Medical Center where they were treated and released.
Mr. Wheeler was then lodged in the Greenup County Detention Center and charged with the following: DUI 3rd, driving on suspended license, failure to produce insurance card, no registration plate or receipt, driving without license/negligence in accident.
KSP was assisted on scene by Raceland Police Department, Worthington Police Department, Raceland Fire Department, and Greenup County EMS.
The collision remains under investigation by Sergeant Eric Gibson and Trooper Bobby King.
